Hello Friend,

According to the mainstream media and the establishment hacks in government and corporate America, June is LGTBQ+ month. Creating “months” to celebrate some leftist hobby horse has become commonplace in modern American society, much to the detriment of traditional ethics, values, morals, and culture.

June is one of the most important months for Southern history. Jefferson Davis, John Randolph of Roanoke, and Abel P. Upshur were born in June—as was Clyde Wilson—making this a month of Southern conservatism.

Davis gave one of the most important speeches in American history on January 21, 1861, Known as his “Farwell Address” to the United States Senate, Davis insisted that the Southern States had a constitutional right to withdraw from the Union, and he hoped that the action of Mississippi and the other States in the South would “pass down” to his children the principles of self-government and self-determination.

Today marks Jefferson Davis's 215th birthday, and his dream of ensuring that future generations would understand what he considered to be the bedrock of American constitutional thought has been steamrolled by the Lincolnian myth of an “indivisible nation” without the consent of the governed.

Davis, Randolph, Upshur, and Wilson all argued throughout their lives that the Southern spirit of ’76 and ’98 should never die, even if fashionable opinion called it “treason” and antithetical to the American political tradition.

You know better, which is why you are on this email list.

Our goal at the Abbeville Institute is to continue what Davis hoped would happen when he left the Senate on that solemn day in 1861.

The Institute has rebranded and relaunched its Podcast to highlight what is “essential” in the Southern Tradition.

Give Episode 2 a listen. It covers Davis’s Farwell Address. Also, download our FREE mobile app so you can get the Institute on the go. Our Podcast is published there, too.

Our 20th Anniversary Conference in April was a smashing success, and even if you missed it, you will have an opportunity to purchase the lectures in the very near future. They will be published at our Abbeville Academy. Sign up free of charge and then purchase a class or two.

We’re still working on the 1607 Project and our Abbeville U videos, as well as our monthly Zoom webinars.

The last webinar with Jeffrey Addicott on Sherman’s “Union Terror” was a real treat. Check it out.

Our website continues to push new content on a regular basis. This has become a virtual Southern library on history, culture, the arts, and politics.

We’ll also have more information on our Summer School shortly. It will be limited to students only and will be virtual, so if you are an advanced high school, undergraduate, or graduate student, please keep an eye on your email, or if you know someone who fits that bill, let them know about it.

If we wish to honor Davis’s charge, the Abbeville Institute is essential for the future of the South and America.

But we need your help to continue to offer these important educational opportunities.

The Abbeville Institute exists on your generous contributions alone.

Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the Institute. You can donate monthly, annually, or a one-time gift, and all your support is used to finance our outreach to both students and the general public.

At one time, Americans understood that the Southern tradition was the American tradition. We aim to make that a reality again.
